"Reflections on the Service-sector Expansion and
Non-Residential Construction Initiative in the PPI: Progress to date
and where do we want to go in the future?"
Michael
W. Horrigan will give an overview of ongoing initiatives
in the Producer Price Index (PPI) Progam and discuss areas where the
program may expand and improve. Mr. Horrigan will review the scope
and coverage of the PPI expansion into the service sector and
non-residential building construction. The presentation also will
highlight initiatives that the program has undertaken to address
measurement challenges such as quality adjustment and new item bias.
Looking to the future, Mr. Horrigan will discuss possible new
directions for the PPI including expanded coverage of the
construction and service sector industries, development of
alternative aggregation price indexes, and increased efforts to
address new item bias and quality change.
